Join us at the Forest Products Laboratory for our annual Earth Day celebration! The event will include interactive education displays and activities, behind-the-scenes Lab tours, research and scientist engagement, informational booths with local wood workers and community members.

A few of the planned activities include:

  • Explore wood product research exhibits and learn how the Forest Products Lab research benefits forests and communities.
  • Behind the scenes Lab tours will start at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 1:30 p.m. and run for about 45 minutes.
  • Participate in a scavenger hunt to explore your knowledge of the happenings at the Forest Products Laboratory. Win prizes and impress your friends!
  • Smokey Bear will be on hand for bear hugs, pictures, and tons of fun!
  • Explore Smokey Bear’s 80th birthday reading challenge with the National Forest Service Library.
  • Children's Theater of Madison will perform at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2:15 p.m.
  • Work on your Girl Scout Tree Promise Badge.
  • Get a free sapling to take home and plant.

This event continues the legacy of environmental awareness and education started here in Madison when Earth Day began in 1970. This year's theme of sustainability helps focus efforts into three core areas of economy, environment, and social improvements.
