An arts and Science Collaboration - El Toro wilderness

Release Date
March 1, 2013

El Toro Wilderness, El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico. March 2013.

This video illustrates the Wilderness Science and Art Collaboration residency that took place at El Toro/El Yunque National Forest during the month of March 2013. The residency is an interdisciplinary effort between science and art, with the purpose of celebrating the earth, resources and the opportunities protected under the Wilderness Act (Created on 1964 to establish a National Wilderness Preservation System for the permanent good of the whole people, and for other purposes). As part of this initiative artists were selected to collaborate with researchers in the scientific process. Then with this experience, the artists will produce a body of work that creatively illustrates the value of wild areas and honors the scientific efforts to preserve wilderness, which will be part of a future exhibit. The project will be hosted in six different biomes, and El Toro, Puerto Rico was selected as the first residency.
