Bulldozers as Bison: Running Buffalo Clover Research and Management Story Map
Release Date
Nicknamed for its close association with bison, running buffalo clover (Trifolium stoloniferum) was considered extinct until 1983, when it was rediscovered in West Virginia and listed as endangered. Since 1994, research at the Fernow Experimental Forest has clarified the conditions in which running buffalo clover grows best in a forested setting. Application of this research has been important to the success of the species, which in 2020 was removed from the endangered species list.
