The Bison are Back. Will the Rest of the Ecosystem Follow?

In early June 2021, Northern Research Station scientists and Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie resource specialists launched a multi-year research project on best management practices for prairie restoration using bison grazing. This research will inform the design and implementation of a grazing management program for prairie restoration that promotes desired conditions for grassland bird habitat and other wildlife species.
