Using eDNA to track freshwater species

Release Date

Freshwater ecosystems and their associated species are threatened in many places worldwide. To effectively manage freshwater ecosystems, natural resource managers need accurate, timely data on the presence, abundance, and diversity of freshwater organisms, particularly species that have an elevated conservation status. This StoryMap highlights recent work by scientists at the Pacific Northwest Research Station. They developed a method for multigene eDNA metabarcoding that provides a way to quickly and accurately monitor many freshwater species across multiple locations.
