A Photographic Guide to Yellow Cedar

Marshall Murray, a forester retired from the PNW Research Station, developed a passion for finding and documenting yellow cedar throughout much of its range in Washington and Oregon, plus several sites in California and British Columbia. He was especially impressed with the size that the trees could attain and took many hundreds of pictures of tree boles which show the size and form of large trees including fluting, burls, and epiphytes. He also documented the species in some less typical habitats (such as east of Cascade Crest in Washington), took pictures of tree crowns, and damage such as that caused by bears, fire or high winds. 

The pictures are arranged in geographic groups and labeled by the site name which Marshall assigned.
