Identifying plausible community wildfire disasters in low-frequency fire regimes

The Pacific Northwest Research Station launched its new webinar series with a live webinar to highlight “Hazards of Risk: Identifying Plausible Community Wildfire Disasters in Low-Frequency Fire Regimes,” a recent study that compared simulated wildfires and historical disasters from 1984 to 2020 to identify plausible disasters in communities in western Washington and Oregon. The probability of wildfires is relatively low in communities on the west side of the Cascade Range, but the consequences are high, given population density, the presence of essential infrastructure, and other factors. 

In this hour-long webinar, scientists Andy McEvoy and Becky Kerns discussed their research and answered questions.
