Primary Features

Icicle-Frosty Creek proposed Research Natural Area (pRNA) was chosen to represent a western redcedar (Thuja plicata)/western hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla) forest. The pRNA lies on a narrow valley bottom and slopes. Channels of Icicle Creek and Frosty Creek lie within the pRNA’s boundaries. Western hemlock and western redcedar dominate the valley bottom with devil’s club (Oplopanax horridus), lady fern (Athyrium), foam flower (Tiarella), and salmonberry (Rubus spectabilis) as the understory. Pacific silver fir (Abies amabilis) stands become more abundant at higher elevations within the RNA.
