The fire season is in full swing in many parts of the western U.S. In this webcast, Research Ecologist Matt Reeves evaluates 7 indicators of fire potential across the west and potential impacts on wildfire activity. Overall, southern California and Central Arizona top the list while the northern Great Basin and Pacific Northwest, primarily in eastern Washington, are close behind. Reeves reminds listeners that the indicators chosen primarily reflect non-forest conditions and may not be applicable to some of more deeply forested areas of the western U.S.
