Moose Creek Plateau Research Natural Area
Ecological and Physical Description
Moose Creek Plateau Research Natural Area (RNA) is high elevation plateau country, with droughty soils underlain with obsidian sand. It is climax to subalpine fir, and whitebark pine. This area was completely, and largely severely, burned in the 1988 North Fork Fire. Prior to the burn, the area was undergoing a mountain pine beetle-driven transition from seral lodgepole to climax subalpine fir and whitebark pine.
