A Walk in the Woods: What’s there and why? Brown bag at Bent Creek EF

Reigstrants will hear Joey Borders discuss local land management history, how it influences current conditions,  and current forestry trends and challenges. Borders is a certified registered forester at EcoForesters with a bachelor’s degree in natural resource conservation management from Western Carolina University. He has operated a landscape design company that specialized in using native plants, assisted with the hemlock woolly adelgid resistance breeding program established by the Forest Restoration Alliance, worked with Forest Stewards, and witnessed the impact of restoration and remediation projects. His experiences have provided him with keen forest management insights that balance the needs of land-holders with greater ecological considerations.
