Biochar is a promising material for environmental remediation.

Environmental pollutants such as heavy metals cause harm to both human health and ecological systems. We need cost-effective, sustainable solutions to address this problem. Biochar is a promising material for environmental remediation, but pure biochar has limitations that decrease its effectiveness in absorbing pollutants. This project explores how incorporating nanoparticles into biochar could enhance its effectiveness, as well as the barriers we need to overcome in order to produce nanobiochar on a larger scale.

Expected Results

A review paper synthesizing techniques for biochar-assisted nanomaterials and their use for removing contaminants from water and soil, Exploring Nanobiochar for Environmental Remediation Applications, submitted for review in 2024.
