California Fire Severity Prediction Mapping Project

Release Date

We initiated the California Fire Severity Prediction Mapping Project to fill a need for decision support tools that provide spatially explicit information about where to place land management projects aimed at mitigating future fire severity potential. With this ArcGIS StoryMaps project, we introduce a set of maps that we produced to predict fire severity if an area were to burn during future wildfires in California. These maps [RM1.1][DSFC1.2] can support management actions such as planning prescribed burns, locating fuels treatments, managing unplanned ignitions for ecological benefit, and managing wildlife habitat in fire prone landscapes.
