Abstract

In 1997, roundwood output from Kentucky's forests totaled more than 195 million cubic feet, 5 percent more than in 1995. Mill byproducts generated from primary manufacturers declined 11 percent to 98 million cubic feet. Almost 95 percent of plant residues were used primarily for fuel and fiber products. Saw logs were the leading roundwood product at 161 million cubic feet; pulpwood ranked at a distant second at 17 million cubic feet. The number of primary processing plants declined from 401 in 1995 to 391 in 1997. Total receipts increased 2 percent to 216 million cubic feet.
