Changes in the relationship between annual tree growth and climatic variables for four hardwood species

Abstract

A study was conducted to characterize temporal and spatial variability in the growth response of four major hardwood species (white oak, chestnut oak, northern red oak, and yellow-poplar) to climatic fluctuations, and to evaluate the role of environmental factors associated with difference in response among individuals. The study incorporated tree-ring data collected by the Tennesee Valley Authority from a system of permanent forest inventory plots.
