Abstract

Pistillate fiower survival was monitored at weekly intervals in three species of oak (Quercus rubra L., Q. velutina Lam., and Q. alba L.) during the 1989 and 1990 growing seasons in central Missouri. Pollen was shed between late April and early May in both years. However, in 1989 only Q. velutina flowers had emerged by the time of pollen shed; in 1990 flowers of all three species were receptive. Tm-tree variation was observed in morphological development of the flowers, especially in peduncle length in Q. rubra and Q. alba.
