Abstract

In 2006, New York Sea Grant and the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry conducted a mail survey of 1,000 New York State residents (i.e., 500 males and 500 females) who were members of birdwatching organizations. Respondents were asked about their birdwatching initiation, participation, and activity characteristics. Of the qualified sample of 797 individuals, 232 males and 228 females returned usable surveys for a response rate of 58 percent. Descriptive statistics were used to identify significant differences between genders.
