Abstract

The environmental education (EE) of America's youth is a high priority, but the effect of EE on children's environmental attitudes and awareness remains uncertain. This study used a pretest, post-test approach to investigate the impact of a 1-week EE summer program on children from different age groups and ethnic backgrounds. A survey instrument designed to measure children's views of nature was created and validated through a multi-step process, revealing three primary components of attitudes and awareness: eco-affinity, eco-awareness, and content knowledge.
