Abstract

Considering the importance of diversifying the concept of leisure and expanding our scope of understanding beyond cultural borders, this study examines the conceptual differences between American and Korean understandings of the term. The results revealed that there is a significant relationship between the concept of leisure and nationality. For Americans, work relation and affect were more highly related to leisure. Perceived freedom was a better indicator for what leisure means to Koreans.
