Abstract

This paper describes the multi-stage public consultation process and other aspects of the development by the Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service of the second (1999) management plan for the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area (Australia). It describes the background to, and rationale for, the process used in developing the plan; it details the consultation process itself; and it critically examines the lessons learned in the course of developing the plan and considers how the effectiveness of such a process can be assessed.
