The timber resources of New York

Abstract

This report presents the findings of the first comprehensive survey of the forests of New York, made in the period 1949 to 1952, by the Forest Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, in cooperation with the New York Department of Conservation. The purposes of this survey were: (1) to make a field inventory of forest land and of the present supply of standing timber; (2) to ascertain the current rate of timber growth; (3) to determine how much the timber resource is being reduced through industrial and domestic uses, fire, and other causes; and (4) to interpret and correlate these findings so that they may he useful in formulating private and public forest policies.
