Abstract
The effectiveness of five dimensional stabilizing agents and three impregnation methods on southern pine was determined. Four southern pine species were studies in order to determine the effect of wood factors. The best dimensional stability was obtained when the wood was preswollen and the chemical was impregnated by a diffusion process. In general, polyethylene glycol gave the highest anti-swell efficiency value, follwed in the order by phenolic resin, styrene-acrylonitrile, styrene, and methyl methacrylate, respectively. Better stabilization was obtained with the low density corewood than with the high density maturewood.
