Abstract

The effects of prescribed burns in spring or summer on the leguminous plant cover and on seed production of legumes were studied at nine locations on the Sumter National Forest in the Piedmont of South Carolina. Numbers of legumes did not differ statistically from those on unburned control plots. Seed production on plots burned during the summer was significantly greater, statistically, than on plots burned during the spring or on unburned plots. Results are tentative.
