Abstract
A wide range in quantitative composition of the wood oleoresin monoterpenes was found among 64 ponderosa pines in the central Sierra Nevada by gas chromatographic analysis. An inverse relationship was found in the amount of β-pinene and Δ
3-carene. Practically no difference in composition could be associated with (a) type of sample preparation and analysis, (b) position on the trunk of the tree where the oleoresin was obtained, (c) time within a season, between seasons, and between years, (d) time of flow of oleoresin from a wound, and (e) storage time of prepared samples.
