Abstract

Virginia's 25 .. 4 million acres of land area support 1.5 billion J tons of woody biomass. Of this total, 93 percent is on timberland, I 5 percent on reserved timberland and woodland areas, and 2 percent I on nonforest areas. Over the next two decades, more than 9 million I t tons of woody biomass could be harvested annually from timberland I I without adversely affecting timber supplies.
