Abstract

What has happened to the forests of the Lake States as a result of the abnormally heavy cutting during and since World War II and also from the stimulus of improved fire protection and other measures of forest management? This is a question of great interest to many foresters, conservationists, and others concerned with the timber resource. In Michigan and Minnesota the current Forest Survey has progressed sufficiently far to offer a basis for preliminary appraisal in two districts: The central pine district of Minnesota and the west half of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
