Abstract

Systemic insecticides provide the safest and most effective chemical control of defoliators, borers, and sapsucking insects of PopuLus sp. Carbamates and organo-phosphate sprays are good contact and stomach poisons for defoliators, adult borers, some miners, and immature borers. In many countries chlorinated hydrocarbons are still being used because they are economical and persistent. Chemical control of insects causing economic losses in poplar plantations and nurseries is most effective when combined with good cultural practices.
