Abstract

Eastern cottonwood is by far the most important of ten closely related native species of cottonwood-most of which have numerous varieties and apparently hybridize frequently. It is one of our fastest-growing native trees and the wood is widely used in many different product8. Because of exceptionally fast growth and relatively high value. eastern cottonwood is a very promising tree to grow in plantations under intensive management.
