Abstract

Insects (primarily cottonwood leaf beetle) reduced height growth in nurseries an average of 48.8 cm (19 in) per switch. Such a growth loss would mean a 20-25 percent drop in cuttings produced. In a survey of nine nursery plantings, cull due to borers (primarily clearwing borers)and disease cankers reduced the number of potential cuttings from 1.6 to 25.6 percent and averaged a loss of 17.3 percent.
