Abstract

Bauhinia multinervia is a small tree that can reach 6 to 12 m in height and at least 30 cm in diameter. The trees are not long-lived but can annually grow 1 m or more. The bark is gray-brown and fribrous. Leaves are elliptical in shape and split 1/3 to 1/2 their length. The species is an aggressive reproducer that is moderately intolerant. It blooms within 3-4 years. Flowers grow in terminal racemes or panicles. Petals are white and 8-12 cm long. Fruits are flat, dark pods that tend to split and curl upon drying.
