Abstract

In general, the major national Forest Inventory and Analysis annual inventory emphasis has been on data-base design and not on data processing and calculation of various new attributes. Two key programming techniques required for efficient data processing are indexing and modularization. The Southern Research Station Compilation System utilizes modular and indexing techniques applied with standard Oracle tools. We present the unit's approach and describe the challenges encountered as a guide for others embarking on the same complex computational journey.
