Abstract

While statistically reliable methods exist for estimating recreation use on large areas, they often prove prohibitively expensive. Inexpensive alternatives involving the length and rate of individual participation in specific activites are presented, together with data and statistics on the recreational use of three large areas on the National Forests. This information can serve to improve objective use estimation on such areas and fill a void in the recreation planner's managerial knowledge.
