Irrigation and Fertilization Type, Rate, and Frequency of Application

Abstract

There is no "cookbook" formula for growing longleaf pine (Pinus palustris Mill.). However, some very definite minimum guidelines must be followed to successfully produce an acceptable crop of trees. Irrigation and fertilization are the two most important management practices in the growth of the seedlings. Specific guidelines and checkpoints for both the new nursery manager and the more experienced grower who desires to grow better longleaf are presented in this paper.
