Abstract
La especie Pseudomethoca argyrocephala fue descrita muy brevemente a partir de una hembra colectada en St. John, Islas Vfrgenes (Gerstaecker, 1874). Su presencia, inadvertida por la ausencia de ejemplares en las principales colecciones y la deposicion del holotipo en algun museo de Alemania, posiblemente motivo la omision en una clave para las especies antillanas (Schuster, 1945) y en el catalogo para la region Neotropical (Nonveiller, 1990). El gran dimorfismo sexual de los mutilidos impide la identificacion correcta de los sexos cuando no se colectan juntos. En pocas especies antillanas de Pseudomethoca se han descrito ambos sexos, predominando el conocimiento sistematico en las hembras. A continuacion describimos el macho desconocido previamente, redescribimos la hembra de P. argyrocephala y presentamos datos que amplian la distribucion geografica de la especie. Article in Spanish. Translated abstract. Pseudomethoca argyrocephala was briefly described from a female collected on St. John, Virgin Islands (Gerstaecker, 1874). Its presence was unknown because of the absence of examples in main collections and the placing of the holotype in a museum in Germany, this possibly was the reason for it's omission in a key for antillean species (Schuster, 1945) and in the Neotropical regional catalog (Nonveiller, 1990). The great sexual dimorphism of the mutillids is an obstacle to correctly identify the sexes when they are not collected together. In a few antillean species of Pseudomethoca both sexes have been described, predominately systematic knowledge of the females. We describe the previously unknown male, we redescribe the female of P. argyrocephala and we present data that increases the geographical range of the species.
