Abstract

Annual growth exceeded removals in this 43-county area by 219 million cubic feet, or 73 percent. Southern yellow pines account for about 61 percent of this surplus growth. The average annual growth rate for Central Georgia is 68 cubic feet per acre of-commercial forest land, substantially higher than that found in either Southeast or Southwest Georgia. The area of commercial forest has not significantly changed since 1961, and currently occupies 7.3 million acres.
