Long distance landscapes: conducting a baseline visual assessment for the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail

Abstract

The purpose of this Visual Case Study is to share an effort made to conduct a baseline visual assessment for the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail. This assessment was completed a couple of years ago and the comprehensive planning effort for the trail is now underway, utilizing much of the information provided by the assessment. The following case study provides background information on the trail, discusses the objectives and benefits sought through conducting this assessment, details the methods and initial results, and shares some of the next steps and lessons learned.
