Abstract

When considering soils in the context of climate regulation, thoughts most often turn to soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks. However, over geologic time scales, a large part of the earth's C cycle is controlled by the weathering of silicate minerals and carbonates, as well as the formation of pedogenic carbonates. This is the role of mineralogy in the earth's inorganic C cycle.
