Abstract

The first complete inventory of Colorado's 22.6 million acres of forest land shows 12.3 million acres of commercial forest with a volume of 52.7 billion board feet in sawtimber trees. Although timber use has almost quadrupled since 1935, Colorado's timber cut in relation to its inventory is the lowest of the Mountain States. Discusses problems in managing and increasing the cut from the State's big area of old-growth forest. Other forest values - water, forage, and recreation - are also examined from the standpoint of trends in use and present and anticipated future importance to the State and the Nation.
