Abstract

Site preparation improved height and diameter growth but did not improve survival in plantations of typical slash pine (Pinus elliottii var. elliottii and South Florida slash pine (Pinus elliottii var. densa Little & Dorman) established in south Florida. Bedding provided the most favorable site for early growth through 5 years, whereas clearing appears to have provided the most favorable environment for growth from the fifth through the tenth years. Although South Florida slash pine showed the most marked response to site preparation, typical slash pine exhibited superior survival and height growth relative to the performance of the South Florida variety.
