Abstract
This chapter provides methodologies and guidance for reporting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and sinks at the entity scale for cropland and grazing land systems:
Section 3.1 provides an overview of cropland and grazing land systems management practices and their resulting GHG emissions, system boundaries and temporal scale, a summary of the selected methods, data requirements and sources, and estimating GHG emissions. Section 3.2 provides the estimation methods. A single method is provided for each of the GHG emission sources (and sinks), based on the best available method for application in an operational system for entity-scale reporting. A single method was chosen to ensure consistency in emission estimation by all reporting entities.Two appendixes accompany this chapter, summarized below:
Appendix 3A provides the rationale and technical documentation for the methods as well as a discussion on GHG intensity calculations. Appendix 3B summarizes research gaps for estimating GHG emissions in cropland and grazing lands that could provide a basis for future development of the methods in this chapter. Additional background information on the impact of cropland and grazing land management are available in the 2014 report.
