Abstract
From August 29 to September 25, 2023, I took part in an organized group trip through Indonesia, where I talked to locals about their cultural views on owls. This is a summary of my findings. My trip covered parts of southern Borneo (Tanjung Harapan National Park, Sekonyer Village and Kumai), West and Central Java (Jakarta and Yogyakarta areas), Bali (Ubud, Lake Batur, Butuan Village, Candidasa, Sanur, Serangan Village and Kuta), northwestern Flores (Labuan Bajo, Cecer Village), Komodo, Rinca and the Bidadari Islands.
Of the total of 19 owl species in Indonesia, 11 inhabit the aforementioned travel area. Their occurrence refers to islands or parts of islands that are relevant for the article text.
