Abstract
The Urban National Landowner Survey (UNLS) is a component of the National Woodland Owner Survey (NWOS) which is part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Forest Service, Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) program. The UNLS is charged with collecting information on the property owners and managers in the urban areas across the United States. Information is collected on ownership and land characteristics, property management activities, tree-related concerns on their property, participation in programs and organizations, information sources, opinions on neighborhood and community characteristics, attitudes towards trees, and demographics. Initial efforts are focused on private, residential property owners in specific urban areas, with Baltimore, MD, being the first to have a fully completed data collection cycle. This report provides details on the methods used to implement the UNLS and on metrics related to data quality. The information in this report applies specifically to the 2018 Baltimore implementation of the UNLS. Future iterations of this report will cover additional years and urban areas.
