Abstract

A prototype, continuous felling and bunching machine was evaluated in harvesting a three-year-old sycamore short-rotation energy plantation in Alabuma. Prediction equations, production rates, and costs were developed for the harvester.

Production of the feller buncher was approximately 850 stems per hour (17.3 green tonnes). Estimated total cost of the machine was $51.21 per hour. Felling cost for the test was $2.95 per green tome.
