Abstract

Recent legislation (PL. 93-452; P.L. 94-588) has emphasized improvement of fish and wildlife habitat on lands of the National Forest System. A sequential procedure has been developed for screening potential projects to identify those producing the greatest fishery benefits. The procedure—which includes program planning, project planning, and intensive benefit/cost analysis—has nationwide application for both fish and wildlife projects. Fisheries and wildlife values are difficult to assess and available estimates are far from ideal, but better estimates are gradually becoming available.
