International nondestructive testing and evaluation of wood symposium series: 60 years of research.

Abstract
The International Nondestructive Testing and Evaluation of Wood Symposium series was initiated by Washington State University and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Forest Service, Forest Products Laboratory (FPL) in 1963 with the convening of a symposium on the topic of nondestructive testing of wood at FPL. Including that meeting, 23 symposia focused on nondestructive testing and evaluation of wood have been held over the last 60 years at various sites around the world. The technical content of these symposia has been captured and published in proceedings. The proceedings from this series of symposia are large; they contain more than 10,000 pages of technical information related to the topic of nondestructive testing and evaluation of wood and wood products. Proceedings from early symposia were published in hardcopy format. In response to requests to make the proceedings available in an electronic format, in 2012 FPL produced a General Technical Report that included electronic files of past proceedings. Following recent symposia in Brazil, Canada, Germany, and the United States, it was suggested that having all the proceedings summarized and linked to would be valuable to those new to the field. This publication was prepared in response. It includes a brief history of the symposium series, summaries of each symposium, and links to each symposium’s proceedings.
