Abstract

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) began the National Water-Quality Assessment Program (NAWQA) in 1991 to describe the status of and long-term trends in the quality of the Nation's surface- and ground-water resources. The study of the Santee River Basin and Coastal Drainages began in 1994 and included about 60800 km² in North Carolina and South Carolina. A network of data collection sites in the NAWQA study area was designed for ecological, surfacewater, and ground-water sampling.
