Primary Features

The Chilcoot Peak Research Natural Area (RNA) encompasses two subalpine, glaciated basins and intervening ridgeline habitats. The basins contain an unusually diverse assemblage of wetland and aquatic associations (see Photos 1-4). Aquatic types include a lake, raised ponds with sphagnum, and low- to steep-gradient streams. The raised ponds are dominated by yellow waterlily (Nuphar polysepalum). Wetland associations are dominated by coniferous tree, shrub, and graminoid species, often occurring on sphagnum.
