Copper Mountain Research Natural Area
Ecological and Physical Description
Copper Mountain was selected as a potential RNA because of its diverse alpine vegetation on calcareous substrate. A majority of the RNA is comprised of graminoid-dominated vegetation that ranges from sedge turf on exposed, wind-deflation sites to mesic grasslands. A diverse assemblage of grasses and forbs, including six species of Poa occur in these sedge and grassland types. Other alpine habitats include rocky summits and talus.
