Gooding Research Natural Area
Ecological and Physical Description
The area (Box Canyon, Sycamore Creek) has particular value due to the combination of semi-desert climate and low altitude which have produced a habitat for unusual plants and wildlife, It contains many rare plants (Mexican blue oak wild cassava yewleaf willow, touncey oak, sweet acacia, goodding ash) and a few rare animals (coati-mundi, a rare vlne snake-oxybelis microphthalmus, rare grouse-Dalea lagopus [sic], and the Bacard-a Mexican parrot), which have extended their range just north of the Mexico-U.S. border.
