Primary Features

The Hot Creek RNA occupies a plateau/canyon system formed in volcanic deposits on the western margin of the San Luis Valley. The RNA contains relatively pristine old-growth ponderosa pine forest, which is unusual in the region because it has not been grazed by domestic livestock. The riparian vegetation is also noteable.
